A local manufacturer is looking to move across county lines and expand.
Springboro-based Gayston Corp. plans to invest $1.8 million to move to the former Dayton Superior Corp. complex on Richard Street in Miamisburg. The project includes renovations of three buildings on the site, which has been vacant since 2010, as well as new machinery.
Miamisburg applied for a $200,000 economic development grant from Montgomery County for the project.
Gayston, currently in Warren County, has outgrown its 70,000-square-foot site, the application said. The company has 70 employees and plans to hire 25 more within 36 months.
In 2012, Gayston closed on a deal to sell its facility and defense operations to General Dynamics then moved to Advanced Drive in Springboro. It had 95 employees at the time. (257 total employees at time of divestiture).
Founded in 1951 in Dayton, the privately held Gayston consolidated several plants to Springboro in 1987. It started making cylinders in late 1990s, first for the vehicle air bag market. When that industry began to tank, the company switched to manufacturing other cylinders, such as those used in the paintball market, torch fuel cylinders and medical device applications.
Gayston manufactures products for other companies, which then distribute and market them.
